I often get asked:
“Why isn’t my website ranking?”
That is like asking:
“How long is a piece of string?”
My first question is
“What search term (keyword) are you trying to rank for?”
and my second question is:
“Do you know if you are ranking for any search terms at the moment?”
Then it is time for me to do some analysis.
My Opinion
Websites first and foremost should be designed for people, not search engines. Your website is information for existing clients or for new ones. It should explain your business, what services you offer and have some images which backup your wording. They say a picture paint a thousand words…..
Your website should be easy to navigate with your contact information easily accessible.
Users view websites on a wide range of screen types, so it is also extremely important that your website is responsive to computer, tablet and smart phone use.
On-Page Factors
It is the on-Page factors for website ranking I consider to be the most important ones to get right. If these are done well, then you can have your website provide an excellent experience for users as well as be optimised for the search engines.
The on-page factors include:
Content
- Substantive and informational
- Well researched
- Include the search terms (keywords) you wish to rank for
- Engaging to the reader
HTML
- Targeted title tags
- Targeted meta description tags
- Relevant headers, tags and sub-headers
Design and Architecture
- Easily navigable
- Easy crawled by the search-engine spiders
- Loads quickly
- URLS short and meaningful
- Responsive
Off-Page Factors
The off-page factors for a website can be used to propel your website past your competitors in the search engines. My advice is that these need to be worked on consistently. How do you move a mountain? – one rock at a time.
Links
- Quality
- Anchor text
- Number
- NO SPAMMY LINKS!!
Trust
- Backlinks have come from other trusted sites
- Age of domain
- Hosting
Social
- Reputation on social networks
- Shares of content
Relevance of the Website User
- Country
- Address
- History of other searches
- Social
I take a conservative approach to off-page SEO due to the fact that what is considered relevant and beneficial today, could be detrimental in the future.

I tried all possible combination for the ranking. but still I not able to rank on first page. then I realize that the keyword has very high competition level. so now I am targeting long tail keywords. your article explain almost everything that required for ranking. Quality backlink are very important factor and I stopped creating spammy links. instead of that started building quality and relevant backlinks.
Thanks.
