Google has announced that tweets made on Twitter will now be crawled to show up in Google search results. Google made the announcement via a tweet:
On the official Google blog: ‘Tweets take flight in the Google App‘ Google wrote that “you can find real-time content from Twitter right in the search results”.
It has taken six months for the deal to come together and there were early releases on the Google app – now it is official on desktop as well.
This means that tweets have become a lot more important and will have the power to influence customer behaviour.
We are only in the infancy of this new arrangement so it will be interesting to see how search is refined and how businesses alter their tweets. It will also be interesting to see if this also the beginning of Google acquiring Twitter….who knows, that is just speculation…..and what about Facebook posts?
My concern is the further reduction of screen space for website listings, so focusing on a comprehensive social media strategy will become even more important for businesses.
